Pinwheel House

Pinwheel House stands on a level site overlooking a creek in the heart of Silicon Valley. The house is made of four materials: integral colored stucco, cedar siding, ledger stone and glass. Stucco and cedar define four pavilions brought together by a central roof plane. The pavilions, which are heavily programmed, pinwheel out from the central open space and are separated by courtyards aligned with the cardinal directions of a compass. The center of the home which combines living, kitchen and dining is defined by twelve-foot high stucco walls and glass sliding partitions that allow easy access to the outdoor spaces beyond. The kitchen, fireplace and fountain court are aligned on the north south axis of the house and are marked by stone elements that anchor the building to the site and embody the themes of health, hearth and home. Walnut cabinetry, wide plank oak floors and a ledger stone add a sense of materiality and scale to the interiors.
